CALL FOR MORE AAAS EXPERT ADVISORS

REGISTRATION EXTENDED UNTIL 14th NOVEMBER

GET INVOLVED OR REFER A PEER

Dear Colleague,

Thank you for interest in joining the Australian Adventure Activity Standard (AAAS) Expert Advisory Pool, including those who have now signed up for specific areas of expertise.

At present we have received 40 applications to participant in the expert advisory pool across the activity areas. This is after 189 people expressed interest in April. It would be fantastic to close that gap and have more people come onboard.

You will see in the graph below that some activities have reasonable representation and others are very low. We are seeking to attain at least 10 expert advisors in each activity area (17 versus 1).

Commitment

Being an Expert Advisor involves:

  • Reviewing relevant documents in your own time during November / December;

  • Providing technical feedback on proposed changes; and

  • Participating in the collaborative review process to reach agreement on recommendations.

Please note that there are no online meetings. Where complex issues arise, a small group of experts may be convened for a focused, real-time discussion.

Step up Yourself or Refer a Peer

To ensure balanced input at this stage, we are seeking additional advisors for under-represented activities (of course input in the other activities is also valued). If you can contribute to one of these areas, or know a colleague who might be interested, please forward this email and encourage them to sign up.

Expert Advisor Registration

Registrations will remain open until the 14th of November. However, the technical review process will be commencing.

The purpose of the registration process is to capture your self-selected status as a technical expert for the activity area(s) and have that validated by a sector (industry) colleague.

To ensure transparency the information collected will be made publicly available through the consultation platform (excluding person contact information), including the name of the sector colleague recommending you.

Before you begin, we strongly recommend reviewing the required information and attachments.

You will be asked:

  1. Activities: Select up to three activity areas where you wish to contribute. If you consider you need to select more we would like to hear from you direct.
  2. Knowledge & Skill
Describe how you meet the requirements of the current AAAS for Knowledge and Skill. For example this may include vocational education, higher education, or community-based qualifications.
  3. Experience
Outline the length, frequency, and currency of your experience in the activity. Include how long you have been involved, how often, and whether you are still regularly engaged. This can be a 200-word activity bio.
  4. Validation
Upload a recommendation from a sector colleague who can attest to your expertise. This recommendation must specifically reference the knowledge, skills, and experience described in your submission. The name of the sector colleague will be publicly available on the consultation website
  5. Documentary Evidence
Upload relevant supporting documentation, such as qualifications or a CV that demonstrates your experience in the activity(ies).
